This has been a year of discovery for me. I don’t know if its aging (gracefully of course) or just human nature that we become sedentary, a bit set in our ways, content with the status quo to the point we no longer test ourselves as we did when we were young. Whatever the cause, I for one, feel amazed for having journeyed into new, uncharted territories.
Every day I find exciting challenges to take on, both personally and professionally. For the second time this year, I was presented with the opportunity to write poetry. In both instances I searched for just the right written words and failed to discover them. So, unable to find what I wanted elsewhere, I took on the task myself.
I know, it’s not much; a simple little collection of words. Yet, the ability to convey heartfelt meaning, express a thought concisely, or elicit emotion in the succinct stanzas is powerful. It makes me feel good to see a reader’s reaction to this form of the written word, each one so meticulously thought out in cipher. My preference is non-rhyming verse, but that may change with each whim that possesses me.
I hope there are more poems yet to come – it’s just too fun not to consider it. And with each new direction I take, I widen my world and indulge myself in adventure. By golly, I think I’ve found the way to stay young! Or at least think young. I am looking forward to what’s next.
